venues cultural and heritage events: the New Event Frontier

Diane Domas de Crécy and Elisabeth Barbier, founders of Loc'Hall

Heritage is alive and well. For heritage and cultural venues , behind the word " living" there are all the notions of diversity, transmission, preservation, enhancement or openness... All these themes constitute an almost bottomless reservoir from which companies like to draw to feed their event strategy and give meaning to their meetings, seminars, conventions and other events.

Behind this idyllic but theoretical description, however, there is no denying the often complex relationship between demanding corporate event clients and venues cultural or heritage managers, who do not speak the same language. The former have sometimes told us of disappointing experiences: lack of flexibility on the part of managers, long response times, complicated negotiations on both rates and production, reluctant curators...
In the end, despite their obvious appeal, venues heritage and cultural venues have long been left out of the range of spaces in which corporate events could be held.

Times are changing and, at Loc'Hall, we're quick to point out that manyheritage and cultural venues have become more professional, more accessible and have an event offering that compares favourably with venues dedicated pure players.
As proof of this, most of today's refurbishment projects include a focus on hosting events, which often translates into dedicated spaces accessible independently of public opening hours. Architects' roadmaps are now clear. They need to find solutions, encouraged by visionary managers, both public and private, who in recent years have become aware of the contribution that events can make to their business model.

"The venues heritage and cultural websites today have an event offering that more than holds its own against venues dedicated pure players."

In today's world of heritage and culture, with subsidies becoming increasingly scarce, who would refuse the new resources that event requests can generate? The acquisition of works of art, the upkeep of stones and the enhancement of both works and stones are expensive. Events can also bring in visitors who would never normally come to venues .
This ongoing evolution in cultural and heritage awareness is to be welcomed, as it contributes to the democratization of culture and heritage. On this precise point of audience diversity, events also meet the objectives of many of the managers of venues , who have made this a priority.

What remains to be done is to convince seminar and event organizers that the venues cultural and heritage sites are the New Frontier for events.. They need to overcome their reluctance to conquer these incredibly modern but as yet unexplored spaces. Staging an event in a château or a museum is a sign of innovation and progress, at a time when sustainability is finally a virtue.
Dear corporate clients, don't let a bad experience or misperception hold you back,
