In 1833, Adolphe Thiers married Élise Dosne, the youngest daughter of a successful stockbroker. As well-read as he was ambitious, Adolphe Thiers became one of the most important politicians of his time, without ever giving up the idea of being its historian. Destroyed by fire at the hands of Paris Commune insurrectionists,Private Mansion was rebuilt in 1873. In 1905, the youngest sibling and last survivor, Félicie, donated the hotel to the Institut de France. Today, the Fondation Dosne-Thiers - Institut de France welcomes researchers and students to its library specializing in 19th-century history.
