1 B Av. de l'Impératrice Joséphine, 92500 Rueil-Malmaison, Rueil-Malmaison
Capacity : 90

Acquired by Empress Josephine in 1810, the Domaine de Bois-Préau's primary function was to extend her property towards the village of Rueil. The empress housed a number of people in her service, including her doctor and her steward. She also used Château to house books that had no place of their own at Malmaison, as well as part of her cabinet of curiosities.

On Josephine's death, Château de Bois-Préau passed to her son, Eugène de Beauharnais, and was sold by his widow when he died in 1824. Thereafter, Château had several owners until 1920, when Edward Tuck and Julia Stell decided to acquire it, and in 1926 offered it to the Musées Nationaux as an annex to the Musée de Malmaison.

On October 9, 2022, after 25 years of closure and a year of renovation work, Château de Bois-Préau reopens to the public and welcomes professional events.

A very large park with a few scattered statues. Very pleasant for a short stroll.

A few minutes' walk from Malmaison Castle, this building dating from the 19th century surrounded by a 17-hectare English-style park hosts temporary exhibitions, workshops, etc. throughout the year. In April 2024, I was able to see an interesting exhibition there: "Treasures and curiosities". To discover (Malmaison/Bois-Préau twin ticket).

Very nice, calm delicate building. Now under reconstruction. The park in front of the castle is magnificent! Especially with the colours of autumn.
