A monumental ensemble at the heart of French history

Built for the Cardinal de Richelieu, the Palais-Royal is a magnificent illustration of the palatial and civil architecture of the late 18th century. Witness to the events of French history, this "city within a city" has always presented this characteristic: the alliance of venues , some devoted to power, others to pleasure.

When it was bought by Richelieu in 1624, it was only the Hôtel de Rambouillet. Its location, close to the Louvre, seduced the cardinal, who entrusted the architect Jacques Lemercier with the task of transforming it into a real palace. Lemercier created sumptuous apartments for him, and above all a theater, which was for a long time considered the most beautiful in Paris. If the Cardinal Palace has disappeared today, one can still admire the Galerie des Proues, a Doric portico that extends the pseudo-peristyle of Valois.
A jewel of classical architecture, it was given to King Louis XIII in 1636, before becoming the main residence of Anne of Austria and the young Louis XIV during the Fronde years. Under the regency of Philippe d'Orléans in 1715, the Royal Palace experienced its golden age. A patron and lover of the arts, he assembled the most important collection of paintings after that of the king.

Fêtes galantes follow one another until today. Today, the Palais Royal is a true epicenter of Parisian cultural and artistic life. An abundance that will undoubtedly mark your next BtoB meeting.
