127 Boulevard Denfert Rochereau Cognac, 16100 Cognac
Capacity : 300

The Château Royal de Cognac overlooking the river Charente was first a 10th century fortress designed to stop the Norman invasions, then in the 15th century a seigneurial dwelling where one of the most illustrious kings of France, François I, was born. Baron Otard, who had founded his Cognac House in 1795, quickly realized that the thickness of the walls offered exceptional and unique conditions for the ageing of his eaux-de-vie. He acquired Château and saved it from total destruction.

The Château Royal de Cognac, which has become a historical monument, is a witness to the History of France and the House of Cognac and is still today the ideal setting for the most prestigious receptions, cocktails, gala dinners, dances, concerts, etc...

The sumptuous Salle des États is a pure Renaissance style reception hall. It was built in 1517 at the request of King François I to receive his guests. Vast and with a breathtaking view of the Charente, this room is very different from the other spaces of Château dating from the Middle Ages.

The Cour Louise de Savoie, named after the mother of François 1er, welcomes your wine of honor/cocktail.

The boardroom is named after the place where the board of directors of the Baron Otard company used to meet. In the 15th century, it was one of the rooms of the Logis, with its large fireplace, and its access to a large terrace giving a clear view of the Charente river, now hidden. The other window overlooks the inner courtyard of Château. The chapel was located opposite.

We booked a tour online and we wanted it in English, however it didn't seem to be an option. However on arrival that changed and our tour guide easily accommodated due to the numbers. Marion was fun and engaging, very knowledgeable, answering every question thrown her way. We learned so much, even having done other tours elsewhere. We highly recommend a visit!

We booked to do this tour which was fortunate as people who arrived without a booking were turned away. Unfortunately I didn't take the name of the guide but she was very clearly spoken (we did the French tour) and informative. Products were expensive but you were not forced to purchase.

We had the guided tour through the castle. Nicely renovated but rooms are mostly empty. Guide hardly spoke English. Explained the history of the castle. We were shown a video about how cognac is made. The tour took us through the cellars but not the distillery. Afterwards there was a tasting of cognac. You can of course buy cognac here but I don't think it's value for money.

Did a tour of this place and learned so much about how the cognac is made and maintained. They make excellent Cognac, a must have!

Very informative and interesting tour, covering both the historic and well preserved buildings and cognac maturation cellars. Whiskey not great. The cheaper tour includes one tasting of neat cognac and a cocktail taster.
