The House of Victor Hugo, an exceptional address
Behind one of the secret doors that encircle the Place des Vosges lies one of the most moving testimonies of French literary history, the house of Victor Hugo. It was here, in the Hôtel de Rohan-Guéménée, that Victor Hugo lived from 1832 to 1848. He wrote some of his greatest masterpieces such as Ruy-Blas. Above all, he welcomed his prestigious friends there: Lamartine, Dumas, Balzac to name but a few.
Victor Hugo lived for 16 years in this apartment in the Hôtel de Rohan-Guéménée, one of the most elegant on the Place des Vosges. Evoking the man and his work, the writer as much as the artist, through rich collections, the museum is the only one to present decorations created by the poet.
The Maison Victor Hugo reopens its doors in 2020 with a new tour, an educational workshop and a café overlooking the courtyard garden.
A unique venue for your business meetings
With a view on the Place des Vosges, receive your guests in this original place which still bears the traces of the presence of the great man.
Throughout the rooms of Victor Hugo's apartment, let your guests experience a range of emotions. In the red room, you are welcomed under the benevolent patronage of family portraits. The Chinese room evokes the exile in Guernsey, with its Chinese panels drawn by Hugo himself. It is a room dedicated to imagination and fantasy.
Other rooms, even more intimate, are just as moving. The old study, decorated with Rodin's Eroica Bust, or the bedroom, are vibrant testimonies that will leave a lasting impression on your guests.
Discover also the Courtyard and the Garden, to enjoy a business cocktail on sunny days, out of sight.
