This is a brilliant museum. It is in the beautiful Place Des Vosges. Entrance is free though there can be charges for specific exhibitions. The rooms on the second floor have much of the original furniture and decorations. The picture and paintings are fascinating. There is a lift to all floors so wheelchair accessible. A real gem especially for Hugo fans.

Maison de Victor Hugo is a small but fascinating museum that offers a deep dive into the life and works of one of France's greatest writers. Located in the beautiful Place des Vosges, the museum is housed in the very apartment where Victor Hugo lived for 16 years, providing an intimate glimpse into his world. Although the space is not very large, it is well-organized and filled with personal artifacts, original manuscripts, furniture, and artwork related to Hugo's life. The exhibits are informative and give visitors a strong sense of his literary and political journey, as well as his creative mind. One of the best aspects of this museum is that entry is free, making it an accessible and worthwhile stop for literature lovers and history enthusiasts. If you're interested in Hugo's works, especially Les Misérables or The Hunchback of Notre-Dame, this place will give you a new perspective on his inspirations and personal life. Overall, it's a must-visit if you appreciate literature, history, or simply want to experience a unique side of Paris beyond the usual landmarks.

It's okay but don't expect something super special. For me, Victor Hugo's personal bed and the painting in the same room showing Hugo's dead body on that bed and of course his famous portrait were the most interesting part.

I went to Paris specifically to see my favourite musical, Les Misérables at the Chatalet Theatre, but before I did that I simply had to visit the home of Victor Hugo, the author of Notre-Dame de Paris (or The Hunchback of Notre-Dame, as the book is called in English). Entry to the house is free, although there are fees to see special exhibitions.

This museum is tucked in the corner of the Place des Vosges which is worth walking around all four sides and sitting in the park to absorb the buildings' architecture. The museum is an old house which does a great job at showing his life story, as well as the furnishings of the period. There are only 4 rooms decorated in the style of the era but each room has a lot to see - paintings, other artwork, documents and decor. I didn't know that Hugo was a poet, painter and draftsman in addition to author. In his middle age, there was a lot of political activity in France and Hugo was exiled for almost 20 years to the British isle of Guernsey. I had no idea about any of that so it was an educational visit as well as interesting. Their cafe was good - they offer a few hot dishes each day, plus sandwiches, salads and desserts. I had penne w roast pumpkin, pine nuts and sage butter which was very tasty; and of course good bread.
