Book the Chapelle Expiatoire, a moving and intimate place in the heart of Paris

A neo-classical jewel dedicated to the royal memory

This is one of the most moving addresses in Paris. A place where memory and serenity meet. Hidden in the 8th arrondissement, the Chapelle expiatoire stands on the site where Louis XVI and Marie-Antoinette were buried in 1793, before being transferred to the Saint-Denis basilica.

Its construction was decided in 1815 by Louis XVIII, brother of Louis XVI. He entrusted its realization to Pierre Fontaine, architect of all regimes, from the Consulate to the Second Empire. He conceived the place as an oasis of calm and silence in the heart of Paris. His numerous references to Antiquity and the Renaissance, in a very romantic atmosphere, would later make Chateaubriand say that the "chapel is perhaps the most remarkable monument in Paris".

Classified as a historical monument, the Chapelle Expiatoire welcomes your professional events out of sight.
