Incredible place. Even in bad weather, it was a fantastic experience! There's a lot of walking and a lot of stairs, but we just took it bit by bit. The views are spectacular from all over the mount so taking photos from each stopping point is lovely. The Abbey is a historical treasure. It never once fell during the wars over the last 1,000 years, which is a wonder. Once you're there and you see the construction, you can see why. Do remember this is right on the English Channel and it's cold so dress appropriately. if you get the chance to hear mass on Sunday, do it. I wept because it was so moving. The food in the restaurants isn't stellar but it's not bad. If you can stay overnight on the mount, just don't have huge expectations for the food. The abbey itself has a hundred secrets and she only shares them if you listen.

What can you say that hasn't been about this incredible place? It is a 4.5 hour bus ride from Paris but in my opinion this medieval marvel is worth the trip. The setting, the construction, the history and architecture from 800s to modern times is astounding. I believe this is just not to be missed. We went at the end of winter so the crowds were not too bad at all. In summer it is overwhelmed by tourists. But still an iconic part of France to see.

Come in February. You might get lucky with the weather, you might not, but the crowds will be a lot thinner and there will be some room to breathe. The eating establishments on the island are fine but very very pricey. There is a sandwich place (Frigale) or, better yet, get an early lunch before you arrive and do the tour late so - again - it's not so busy.

Just looking around inside the abbey, We took literally hundreds of pictures of the stone work, ceramics, columns, wooden beamed ceilings, carved reliefs, the status of St Michel, the rock at the bottom of the abbey which is considered blessed, the walk in double fireplace, the previous places of prayer and carved in stone pulpits, and my personal favorite, the human sized hamster wheel used to haul supplies up from down below. There is so much to see, it would completely be worth doing this again and just slowly going through and absorbing everything to be seen. This took over 1000 years to build so you are truly walking through history.

We arrived around 10am in the off season. It was very windy and light rain. The whole experience was amazing. It felt like stepping back in time. We visited the Abbey and the museums. Overall we spent about three hours just exploring minus the shops and cafes. Worth the drive!
