When she met the photographer Jean Besancenot (1902-1992) in 1984, Hannah Assouline came across a portrait of her father, Rabbi Messaoud Assouline, photographed by Besancenot as a child in the oasis of Erfoud, Morocco. Co-curator of the exhibition "Jews of Morocco, 1934-1937", she tells the story of this forgotten image and its reappropriation by her father, born in Tinghir in 1920, a student of Rabbi Baba Salé, who became rabbi of the rue du Bourg Tibourg (Paris 4th arrondissement) upon his arrival in France.
