Book the Cognacq-Jay Museum, elegant Private Mansion in the heart of the Marais

An exceptional collection of 18th century art in a historic Private Mansion in the Marais

Among the great families who have left their mark on the history of the capital, the Cognacq-Jay family is perhaps the most flamboyant. This family epic is intrinsically linked to the unique history of the Musée Cognacq-Jay.

This couple of collectors from the beginning of the twentieth century was very early on in their commitment to the promotion of fine art. As early as 1925, Ernest Cognacq planned temporary exhibitions of his personal collections at the Samaritaine. Some time later, he acquired a set of 18th century woodwork as frames for the museum he planned to install in the building next door. Although he never saw his project come to fruition, his plan was pursued by Edouard Jonas, an antique dealer and advisor to the owner of the Samaritaine, and the beneficiary of the bequest, the City of Paris.
In the heart of the Marais, this superb Private Mansion brings together the collection of the founder of the Samaritaine department stores. It presents a beautiful collection of paintings and sculptures by the masters of the 18th century, as well as furniture and objets d'art.

The Hôtel Donon, built in 1575 and which has housed the museum since 1990, has been constantly transformed, refurbished and redecorated, and is a testament to the architecture of the rich mansions and refinement of Paris. Some of the museum's rooms, revisited by the famous designer Christian Lacroix, are perfectly suited to the organization of events in an elegant and intimate setting.

A fabulous setting for your most intimate receptions

The Cognacq-Jay Museum offers a most elegant setting for your professional events. The Salon à boiseries is particularly suitable for your business cocktails. The Grand Comble, which resembles the hull of an overturned ship, will host your conferences or even your dinners in the strictest of intimacies.

For your larger receptions, seduce your guests with a reception in the charming garden or in the elegant interior courtyard. It's an opportunity for you to follow in the footsteps of the Samaritan's founders.
